Creativity and Copyright: Navigating the Complex Intersection between Technology, Music, and Copyright Law

 

Presented by Forensic Musicologist and Expert Witness Judith Finell

Speaker Judith Finell — who was the expert witness on many milestone music copyright trials, including the “Blurred Lines” trial — will discuss the trends in recent music copyright infringement disputes and decisions. Areas discussed will also include musical examples and trial exhibits, and will touch on technological developments, such as digital sampling, artificial-intelligence created music, and the impact on protectability, access, and licensing of streaming and social media.

 

 

Judith Finell co-teaches the only forensic musicology course in the country at UCLA and presides over a firm of music experts with offices in New York and Los Angeles.
