The globalization and the internet have changed the world of trademarks and their enforcement. While trademark conflicts in the old days were often confined to the domestic market, they nowadays spread out to other countries all over the world in a matter of seconds. Since those infringements often call for rapid action, corporate and outside counsel are required to have in depth knowledge of litigation means and mechanisms in other important markets of the world.

Please join us for the November luncheon where Matt Berger, partner of the European law firm Fieldfisher and alumnus of Golden Gate University, will discuss what you need to know about IP litigation in the EU. Using practical examples, the program will provide background and strategic advice in relation to the EU Trademark system, and the enforcement of IP rights in the EU.

Speaker:

Matt Berger is a partner of the European law firm Fieldfisher in Hamburg, Germany. For fifteen years, he has specialized in Intellectual Property law with emphasis on European trademark, design, unfair competition and copyright law, particularly for US and Canadian clients. Previously, he was a counsel with one of the leading IP boutiques firms in Germany and a staff associate with Morgan Lewis & Bockius in Frankfurt, Germany.

Matt represents a diverse clientele for whom he provides a wide range of services, including clearance and prosecution of trademarks and designs, strategic advice in relation to trademarks and designs, licensing and related transactions. He has developed a specific emphasis on monitoring and enforcement activities, including trademark, trade dress, design, copyright and unfair competition litigation, customs enforcement and anti-cybersquatting activities, including proceedings under the Uniform Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy.

Matt regularly speaks and writes on IP law topics, primarily for US audiences.
