The LAIPLA Spring Seminar Retreat will be held April 26-28, 2019 at the spectacular Terranea Oceanfront Resort on the Palos Verdes Peninsula—one of Southern California’s most scenic and coveted coastlines.  Spring Seminar is a three-day, can’t miss, get-a-way weekend that combines high-quality and in-depth legal content with an abundance of networking opportunities and social activities.  More than 30+ speakers consisting of leading legal scholars and experts, as well as in-house counsel and private practitioners will be presenting on issues related to intellectual property and cutting edge technology.  Among the many presentations, there will be an interview with Congressman Ted Lieu (CA) on issues related to the Internet, technology, and cybersecurity as well as a keynote lunch address by Ms. Regan Smith, the General Counsel and Associate Register of Copyrights for the United States Copyright Office.  In addition, substantive panel presentations will also cover, among other things: leveraging the right venues—both in the US and abroad—for successful patent litigation; disruptive technologies affecting our work and our lives and legal implications; what people want and don’t want to see from Hollywood and how editing impacts the market for films; Helsinn v. Teva on the meaning of “on sale” under the America Invents Act (AIA); and implicit and explicit bias in the legal field and how to address it, as well as research on jurors’ perceptions of gender and race.
