Inter Partes Review (IPR), the successor to inter partes re-examination that was brought into place by the 2011 America Invents Act, has proven to be hugely popular given the number of petitions filed. An IPR, however, is a very different creature from a re-examination, and embodies a practice style that is a hybrid between an administrative proceeding and a civil litigation.

Our speaker, Richard Bone, will provide an overview of IPRs from a practitioner’s viewpoint, focusing on a number of the key procedural aspects that are hallmarks of the proceedings. Mr. Bone will also give an overview of some recent statistics, to illustrate the rapid evolution of the practice and the inherent advantages that petitioners appear to enjoy.
