The SFIPLA is pleased to welcome back Michelle Greer Galloway (Of Counsel, Cooley) and Sarah Moore (Associate, Cooley) for a free virtual seminar on IP Ethics, eligible for 1.0 hour of CA Ethics CLE credit. In this session, we will provide an overview of recent opinions and cases relevant to IP attorneys. This program will cover several current hot button ethics issues including:

  • New rules and key opinions
  • Ethical issues in the remote workplace with special attention to confidentiality and unauthorized practice of law issues
  • Conflicts issues with prospective, current, and former clients
  • Ethics issues in litigation including Rule 11 obligations, confidentiality and privilege issues, discovery, and what constitutes an “exceptional case” for awarding attorneys’ fees
  • Ethics in practice before the USPTO
  • The “head shaking” ethics cases of the past year and a look ahead to 2021

PANELISTS

Michelle Greer Galloway is a former partner and currently Of Counsel in Cooley’s IP litigation group. Ms. Galloway’s technology litigation practice focuses on patent litigation and strategic counseling. She advises clients on legal, strategic and technical issues of information management, including electronically stored information and compliance, as well as in the areas of risk management, compliance, and ethics. She is the past Chair of the ABA Intellectual Property Section, Ethics and Professional Responsibility Committee and Chaired an ABA Task Force regarding USPTO proposed disciplinary rule changes. She also teaches at Stanford Law School and Santa Clara University School of Law.

Sarah Moore is an intellectual property litigator at Cooley with an emphasis on patent, trade secret and copyright litigation. Her practice has spanned an array of technologies in the areas of social networking, data center and server design, ITSM, gaming, smart phones, vehicle remote start technologies, and semiconductor technology. She has taken graduate-level professional ethics courses, worked for ethics organizations, and regularly presents on ethics issues.
