Those who are familiar with Mr. Boorstyn’s nationally acclaimed books, Copyright Law and Boorstyn on Copyright, or have read his perceptive articles, or have heard him speak, know his down-to-earth, practical, no-nonsense approach.
His well-earned reputation was founded on more than 50 years of practical legal experience. Mr. Boorstyn was a member of the New York and California Bars, specializing in copyright and computer law and litigation. He chaired the Copyright Committee of the California State Bar, served on the Executive Committee of the Patent, Trademark & Copyright Section of the State Bar, chaired the Software Protection Committee of the San Francisco Bar, and chaired the Industrial Products Committee of the International Patent & Trademark Association. He was a frequent speaker at associations such as the A.B.A., the California State Bar, the Copyright Society, the Federal Bar (U.S. Copyright Office), American Intellectual Property Law Association (AIPLA), and was a Guest Lecturer at the Judicial Seminar on the Protection of Computer Software given before the Supreme Court of Taiwan. He was also appointed Special Master by the Court in A&M Records, Inc. v. Napster, Inc. In addition, Mr. Boorstyn taught both copyright and computer law at Hastings College of the Law, U.C. Berkeley (Boalt Hall), U.C. Davis Law School, and Golden Gate University School of Law. Notable clients include The Beatles, Hewlett-Packard, Lockheed Martin, Sony Corporation, Warner/Chappell Music, and Frank Gehry.
